Funding of Labs

The attention paid toward DNA has resulted in a remarkably disproportionate amount of federal funds being denied other forensic laboratory sciences that are equally important, and are, in fact, utilized more frequently than DNA.  The result has been the inability of some laboratories to keep pace with incoming cases.  A small committee was convened for the purpose of issuing a formal position statement on laboratory funding, and to specifically comment on the practice utilized by some laboratories to collect fees that are dependent on the conviction of a defendant.
